Top-rated independent heating and cooling across north Georgia and the southern Appalachians

Thermostat Replacement

We replace failed and outdated thermostats in homes across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. You need a replacement when the screen is dead, the temperature reading drifts from the actual room, the system short cycles, or the old control cannot run the equipment you now have, like a dual-fuel setup. Before you call, check the batteries and confirm the breaker is on. If that changes nothing, call us and we will look at the wiring and the equipment it controls.

What the job involves

A replacement starts at the wall and ends at the equipment. We shut power down, note what each existing wire is doing, and pull the old control. Older foothill homes often have four wires where a modern thermostat wants five, so we may need to run a common wire or use an adapter. Then we mount the new control level, terminate the wiring, set it up for your heating type, and run both heating and cooling to confirm every stage responds the way it should.

What we check and install

We check the wire count and condition, the low voltage transformer, and whether the board at the furnace or air handler is sending clean signals. If a thermostat has been failing, sometimes the real fault is a shorted wire in a crawlspace or a bad control board. We install programmable and smart controls, plus multi-stage and heat pump models that handle auxiliary heat and dual-fuel changeover correctly. Placement matters too. A thermostat on a sunny wall or near a supply vent will read wrong forever.

How we decide replacement is the right call

We replace when repair is not a real option. Mercury and old mechanical controls cannot stage modern equipment. Cracked cases, unresponsive buttons, and readings several degrees off usually mean the sensor is done. If you have added a heat pump or a propane furnace for backup, the old single-stage control may be fighting the system rather than running it. If the thermostat is fine and something else is causing the comfort problem, we will tell you that instead and chase the actual fault.

Thermostat Replacement — quick answers

Will a new thermostat fix my uneven temperatures?

Sometimes, but often not. Uneven rooms usually point to duct problems, low airflow, or a struggling outdoor unit. A new thermostat controls the equipment more accurately. It cannot move more air through an undersized or leaking duct run.

Do I need a smart thermostat?

No. Smart controls are useful if you want remote access and scheduling, and most work well with heat pumps and dual-fuel systems when set up properly. A straightforward programmable control does the job fine if you prefer simple.

Can my old wiring run a new thermostat?

Often yes, but many smart models need a common wire for steady power. If yours has only four wires, we can usually run a new one or install an adapter at the equipment. We confirm that before installing anything.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what you hear, smell or feel. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping. That gives us a head start on the likely cause.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant performance and the outdoor unit. We work the crawlspace and the attic too, because ductwork and drainage cause more trouble than people expect.

  3. Step 3

You decide, then we fix it

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. No work starts until you say go. Most repairs finish the same visit when parts are on the truck.

Why homeowners call us

  • Mixed heating is normal to usHeat pumps, propane furnaces and dual-fuel setups all behave differently in cold weather. We know how a heat pump should sound in the thirties and when the backup heat is doing too much of the work.
  • We go under the houseRed clay crawlspaces hide crushed ducts, sweating lines and standing water. Comfort problems often start down there, not at the unit, so we look before we start replacing parts you may not need.
  • Plain explanationsYou get told what broke and why, in words that make sense. If a repair is a short-term patch on an aging system, we say that out loud so you can plan instead of guessing.
  • One crew, six statesWe serve homeowners across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Same approach in every one: show up, diagnose properly, repair what needs repairing, leave the space clean.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
