Top-rated independent heating and cooling across north Georgia and the southern Appalachians

UV Lights & Ventilation

We install and service ultraviolet lights and fresh air ventilation inside residential HVAC systems across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Homeowners call us when the air smells musty every time the blower starts, when the evaporator coil keeps growing biofilm, or when a tight newer house feels stuffy and stale. Give us a call and describe what you smell and where. We will look at your equipment, your ductwork and your crawlspace before we recommend anything.

What the job involves

A UV light install means cutting into the air handler cabinet or plenum, mounting the lamp so it shines on the coil or the moving air, and running a dedicated power feed. Ventilation work is different. That is bringing measured outdoor air into the return, or exhausting damp air out, so the house is not just recirculating whatever the crawlspace gives it. Both jobs take an hour or several depending on access. Tight closets and low crawlspaces slow it down, and we will tell you that up front.

What we check or install

We start with static pressure, filter condition and the coil itself, because a lamp pointed at a dirty coil does very little. We look at return leakage, since a return pulling red clay crawlspace air is usually the real source of the smell. Then we size the lamp to your cabinet and airflow, or spec a ventilation path with a proper damper and control. On homes with propane or dual-fuel equipment up on the ridges, we confirm combustion air is right before adding anything.

How we decide it is the right call

UV and ventilation are not fixes for every complaint. If your ducts are leaking, your filter is bypassing, or humidity is running high, we correct those first because they are cheaper and they matter more. We suggest UV when a coil repeatedly grows biofilm or drain pans stay slimy. We suggest ventilation when a house is sealed tight and carbon dioxide and odors build up. If neither applies, we say so and you keep your money.

UV Lights & Ventilation — quick answers

Do UV lights replace my air filter?

No. Filters catch particles, UV targets biological growth on wet surfaces like the coil and drain pan. You still change filters on schedule. We size the lamp to work alongside whatever filtration your system already handles.

How often does a UV lamp need replacing?

Most lamps lose useful output after a year or two even if they still glow. We note the install date and check output at maintenance visits, then swap the bulb when it drops off rather than guessing.

Will adding fresh air ventilation make my house harder to cool?

It adds some load, which is why we measure the airflow instead of just cutting a hole. Controlled ventilation with a damper brings in air on a schedule, so your system is not fighting outdoor humidity all day.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what you hear, smell or feel. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping. That gives us a head start on the likely cause.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant performance and the outdoor unit. We work the crawlspace and the attic too, because ductwork and drainage cause more trouble than people expect.

  3. Step 3

You decide, then we fix it

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. No work starts until you say go. Most repairs finish the same visit when parts are on the truck.

Why homeowners call us

  • Mixed heating is normal to usHeat pumps, propane furnaces and dual-fuel setups all behave differently in cold weather. We know how a heat pump should sound in the thirties and when the backup heat is doing too much of the work.
  • We go under the houseRed clay crawlspaces hide crushed ducts, sweating lines and standing water. Comfort problems often start down there, not at the unit, so we look before we start replacing parts you may not need.
  • Plain explanationsYou get told what broke and why, in words that make sense. If a repair is a short-term patch on an aging system, we say that out loud so you can plan instead of guessing.
  • One crew, six statesWe serve homeowners across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Same approach in every one: show up, diagnose properly, repair what needs repairing, leave the space clean.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
