Top-rated independent heating and cooling across north Georgia and the southern Appalachians

AC Not Cooling

If your AC is running but the air coming out of the vents is warm or barely cool, that is the call we take most in summer. We diagnose and repair air conditioners that run without cooling across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Before you call, check that the thermostat is set to cool, change a dirty filter, look for a tripped breaker, and clear leaves or grass clippings from around the outdoor unit. If it is still warm inside, get in touch and we will come look.

What an AC not cooling call involves

We start where the air is, measuring temperature at the return and at a supply vent to see how much cooling the system is actually producing. From there we work backward: airflow through the filter and coil, blower operation, refrigerant pressures, and whether the outdoor unit is running or just humming. Weak cooling and no cooling usually have different causes, so we confirm which one you have before touching a part. You get the finding in plain language and your options before any repair starts.

What we check on your system

Common culprits are a clogged filter or a frozen indoor coil choking airflow, a failed capacitor keeping the outdoor fan or compressor from starting, a contactor that will not pull in, a low refrigerant charge from a leak, or a condensate safety switch shutting the system down. We also look at the outdoor coil, since red clay dust and cottonwood pack it tight and heat has nowhere to go. On heat pumps we check that the reversing valve is actually in cooling.

How we decide repair is the right call

We weigh the failed part against the rest of the system: age, condition of the coils, whether refrigerant has leaked before, and how the ductwork is performing. A capacitor or contactor on a sound system is a straightforward fix and you are cooling again the same visit. A compressor failure or a repeat leak on an older unit is a different conversation, and we will lay out repair and replacement side by side. Homes up the ridges with dual-fuel setups get checked on both sides.

AC Not Cooling — quick answers

Why is my AC running constantly but the house stays warm?

Long runtimes with poor cooling usually point to restricted airflow, a dirty outdoor coil, or a low refrigerant charge. Change the filter first. If nothing improves in a few hours, call us for air conditioning repair.

There is ice on my indoor coil and lines. What should I do?

Switch the system to off and set the fan to on so the ice can melt, then change the filter. Ice means airflow trouble or low refrigerant, both of which need a technician to diagnose.

The outdoor unit is not spinning at all. Is that the problem?

Very likely. A quiet or humming outdoor unit often means a failed capacitor, contactor, or motor. Check the breaker once, and if it trips again leave it off and call us for AC repair.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what you hear, smell or feel. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping. That gives us a head start on the likely cause.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, electrical connections, refrigerant performance and the outdoor unit. We work the crawlspace and the attic too, because ductwork and drainage cause more trouble than people expect.

  3. Step 3

You decide, then we fix it

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. No work starts until you say go. Most repairs finish the same visit when parts are on the truck.

Why homeowners call us

  • Mixed heating is normal to usHeat pumps, propane furnaces and dual-fuel setups all behave differently in cold weather. We know how a heat pump should sound in the thirties and when the backup heat is doing too much of the work.
  • We go under the houseRed clay crawlspaces hide crushed ducts, sweating lines and standing water. Comfort problems often start down there, not at the unit, so we look before we start replacing parts you may not need.
  • Plain explanationsYou get told what broke and why, in words that make sense. If a repair is a short-term patch on an aging system, we say that out loud so you can plan instead of guessing.
  • One crew, six statesWe serve homeowners across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Same approach in every one: show up, diagnose properly, repair what needs repairing, leave the space clean.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
